torchlight

This New Years Eve I participated in the torchlight parade at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. It consists of a large group of rather routy employees skiing down the mountain at night while carrying flares. The red glow seen as skiers snake around the mountain creates a glowworm that can be seen from miles away.

polaroid in ruins

My good friend and bad ass photographer Sam Brooks Walker is working on a new project photographing what remains of the Polaroid buildings in Waltham, MA. Using a variety of film, some of which was made in the very same factory, Sam has been documenting the ruins and demolition of the 3 remaining buildings. While back in Massachusetts this past fall, I accompanied him to the Polaroid site a few times. The buildings are fascinating, beautiful, scary, and probably a bit toxic all at the same time, but I’ll let his photos speak for that. I’ve seen a stack of his trial prints that are stunning but I can’t wait to see some monster prints made from those 4×5 negatives. For now, here are some teaser photos of Sam on the scene.
